Starting an online business is like any other business venture. There is no magic, as many would have you believe.

You must have your goals in mind and be motivated to succeeding. It will take a very minimum of 5 hours a week with very little if any rewards to start.

This is where your goals and motivation come into play. To see you through the lean times in the beginning. Unfortunately, this is where 95% of aspiring entrepreneurs quit.

To be in the other 5% you need a different approach.

Take the time to learn from experienced internet marketers that you know are successful. Subscribe to as many free newsletters and e-books as you can read and study them!

Do not copy; but be creative with the ideas of the successful. This will help you avoid the extremely expensive education of trial and error.

Now that you know the basics; what are you going to offer? Will you create your own product or sell through an affiliate program?

While you should always strive to create product or service a good affiliate program is an excellent way to get your feet wet.

A quality affiliate program has the essential tools already in place. A website which to send your referred customers, ads that have already been tested, and most important, support to answer your questions when you have a problem.

Your affiliate programs will also contribute to your income as you market your own product by giving you something else useful to offer your customers.

The key of the most successful internet marketers is to generate several small streams of income. Each one in itself small but added together can build up to a significant amount of money.

Now that you have decided on what you will offer. Where will you spend the money you invest into your business and how much will it cost?

Invest what money you can into your business. You won’t need a lot to start if you are willing to do a lot of the work yourself.

With you doing a lot of the work a complete online promotion can cost less than a few hundred dollars. It’s a trade off between work, ingenuity, and money. Don’t forget to take advantage of as much free advertising and tools as you can.

I can not stress enough the need to automate your business as much as possible and as soon as possible. Without automation you will have to run all the rudimentary tasks yourself.

This means checking and answering all of your email, confirm and processing all of your orders, day in and day out seven days a week. Once you start to experience a little success it will be very difficult to go back and automate. So put some of your money here and stay ahead of the game!

After you have your products ready and your system in place at least 75% of your time should be spent promoting your business. Promoting is the life blood of your business and therefore an ongoing process.

One last but most important point. Try to answer all customer requests within 24 to 48 hours. If you make your customer service outstanding you will automatically separate yourself from so many people doing business online.
