Is America On The Verge Of An Economic Implosion?

Congratulations corporate America! In your greedy quest to squeeze even more profits from lower labor costs via outsourcing you have made China an economic super-power at the expense of American taxpayers who funded your betrayal with generous tax credits, not earned, but gifted to you by President Bush. And you managed to pull off this incredible un-American feat in less than two decades! Now while more than 35,000,000 Chinese are driving new Mercedes, BMW, and Porsches, the vast majority of Americans are juggling bills just to stay afloat. First, it was the textile industry, then shoes, steel, and now even our auto industry is at risk of collapse. This economic suicide must stop before even our college graduates are working at Wal-Mart.

Congress needs to impose some mandatory patriotism and rescue our economy for the long haul. They can start by legislating a $500 trade tariff on every imported car payable not by American buyers, but rather by the exporter. That $500 should then be divided and paid out equally to the top five American car manufactures to bolster the pension plans and benefits of Americans employees. Conversely, Americans should be given a $500 tax credit for buying American made and brand cars. Next they need to pass legislation that would require a mandatory trade balance from every country that profits from American consumers, so if for example Sony exports $300 million of products to America, they would have to purchase $300 million of American made goods or services. We should also require American companies to cap their number of outsourced employees to 33%. The Bush administration has allowed middle-class America to be raped economically by foreigners to appease and enrich his own wealthy voter base.

Laws should also be passed that require every store in the U.S. to maintain an inventory that has a minimum 20% of products made in America so we the people at least have a choice to make a patriotic purchase, even if it may cost a few dollars more. What is happening to Ford is a perfect example of why we need pro-American legislation. If not for Ford Motor Company we’d still be riding bicycles and there would be no Toyotas, BMWs, or Hondas. I sincerely believe we owe them some loyal allegiance as Americans especially since they produce more energy-efficient vehicles than any foreign brand. Only by buying American again can we revive and recover a robust economy for every American and not just the wealthy.

It’s time to share the wealth my friends, and with a new House and Senate majority we should be nagging them daily to turn the economic tables back in our favor, or at the very least, provide Americans a level playing field. All those tax breaks given to the wealthiest Americans totaled more than $15 Billion and could have paid for universal healthcare for every American. 20% of Americans should not be allowed to prosper off the backs and hardship of the 80% majority. This has been the status quo with the Bush administration with their selective “incentives”. Tax breaks should go to the folks who truly need and deserve them the most, not just those who can afford to buy them with campaign contributions.

With a few strokes of a pen, Congress has the power to right these wrongs. But can they muster the courage to stand down the corporate lobbyists and all the PACs? Let’s see if they dare include such measures in their official platforms. After, talk in Washington is often cheaper than a furnace in hell.
