Why Be Wary When Purchasing Cigarettes On Line?

The foremost worth mentioning point to be wary about is your privacy! The good reason this is foremost worth mentioning is the possible enforcement of the Jenkin's Act (the law) by your state against the on line cigarette merchant you decide to do business with. There are reasonably few states that take on line cigarette merchants to court and force the cigarette merchants to hand over their customer’s information.

The law states in a manner of speaking that all on line cigarettes vendors have to report your cigarette purchases to your state taxing authority, so that the state can send you a bill for the state cigarette taxes that you owe on the cigarettes you pay money for on line. The state governments had the federal government pass the law to scare people away from buying cigarettes on line and keep these people buying their cigarettes at local stores that have already paid the state cigarette tax and can charge you sales tax on your cigarette purchase.

It is estimated that about five percent of on line cigarette suppliers report voluntarily, but several states have taken a few on line suppliers to court and forced them to hand over the data about their customers. After an online cigarette supplier has been forced to hand over their customer’s data they usually go out of business because they can no longer assure their customer’s privacy. If you bought cigarettes on line and received a bill for state cigarette taxes payable on your purchase, after being assured that your privacy was priority number one, would you do business with them again?

In my opinion the states have a lot of nerve about this. They raise the taxes so high you can not find the money to pay for cigarettes and when you find cigarettes that you can manage to pay the money for they want their taxes. If you go across the state line or on line to buy something to save money or pay less in taxes it is alright as long as it is not cigarettes that you are purchasing on line. How many times have you bought something on line from another state and had to pay your state's sales tax on the purchase?

The reason I started buying my cigarettes on line and started my website is to let people know they and I can smoke without going broke. There are ways around the law. Any business that is treated the way on line cigarette merchants are, will find a way to stay in business and comply with the law.

The good news is any cigarette vendor based in a foreign country does not have to comply with the law because it is U S law and they are not required to obey it. They operate under the laws of the country they are doing business from and some countries have duty free zones that online cigarette vendors operate their business from.

Indian reservation cigarette suppliers do not comply because they see themselves as sovereign self governing nations. They do not want to be told what to do or how to do it by the government. They have a reservation council that establishes what they can and can not do on the reservation. Hence, most Indian reservations have casinos or gambling of one kind or another.

Another way of circumventing the law is by propose to let you pick up your cigarettes or have them mailed to you at your expense. This is known as the point of sale system. By offering to let you pick them up or pay the shipping charges, the cigarette dealers are able to argue that the purchase took place in their state and other states should mind their own business.

All the sites I recommend at my website are in one of these groups but you should be sure to check each sites FAQ, shipping policy, and privacy policies. You have to look out for number one, being yourself. The decision is yours.
