The purpose of each Web site varies, but there is one common goal - reach an audience. Sadly the days of only 70,000 sites are over. Developers have found ways of getting their Web sites listed much higher on those huge lists.

Web sites are identified by a few things:

• title,
• content,
• keywords, and
• description.

All these things, except for the content, are included in what are called "meta tags” within the code of your site. Don't worry it won't get more technical than that. The key to getting to the top is by understanding the searcher's needs and knowing in advance what words they use to find your particular topic.

The procedure is as follows:

1. Find Web site addresses that relate to your topic. Write these down and send them to your designer.
2. Using "keyword extractor" programs, the designer dissects these sites and comes up with reports regarding words used and statistics about each word.
3. Using these statistics, a report is generated with recommendations of which words should be included within the content of your Web site. Sometimes just these changes can improve your standing.
4. The designer also adds important information to the existing "meta tags" on your site.
5. Your site is submitted to 25 popular search engines and within weeks results within site statistics will improve.
